President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on June 12 a gradual demobilization of soldiers who have served the longest in the Ukrainian armed forces, as reported by 24tv. The reform stipulates that by the end of 2026, those fighters who have spent the most time at the front will be discharged.
Zelenskyy emphasized a fair approach for the longest-serving soldiers. Additionally, contract soldiers will have the opportunity to extend their contracts under new conditions, with their already served time being credited. The Defense Ministry plans to present the full military reform in the coming weeks.
The reform also affects the service time and pay of soldiers in the rear and at the front. New contracts are to include clear durations of 10, 14, or 24 months, as well as binding guarantees for the soldiers.
