Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on Saturday that Putin had “lost his chance to exit his failed war” by rejecting Zelensky’s offer for direct peace talks, as reported by the Kyiv Post. The Russian president had dismissed the Ukrainian president’s proposal, made in an open letter, as “inappropriate.”
Sybiha warned that the situation would worsen for Russia: “Losses on the battlefield will continue to grow. The defeats will be more humiliating.” At the same time, the Russian economy would slide deeper into recession, while unemployment, taxes, and inflation rise.
Ukraine’s top diplomat emphasized that by continuing the war of aggression, Putin is worsening his country’s economic and military situation. The statement follows Zelensky’s open letter from Thursday, in which he proposed a personal meeting with Putin.
EuroPulse reported on June 5, 2026, about Zelensky’s open letter to Putin, which at the time, according to then-Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, expressed confidence in victory: Kuleba: Zelensky’s Letter to Putin Showed Confidence in Victory.
