On May 17, 2026, Ukrainian forces launched a massive drone offensive against Moscow and its surrounding regions. According to UNIAN, this was the most successful attack on the Russian capital since the onset of the full-scale aggression. Despite the high density of air defense systems in the area, the attackers managed to hit several strategic targets.
Analyses indicate that there are a total of 130 air defense positions stationed in and around Moscow. Nevertheless, Ukrainian forces successfully struck the important microelectronics manufacturer “Angstrem” in the city of Zelenograd. This company plays a crucial role in the Russian military-industrial complex.
Additionally, a fuel depot near Duriikino, located about 30 to 45 kilometers from Moscow, was targeted. The Moscow refinery in the Kapotnya district also came under attack. These strikes highlight the ongoing threat that Ukrainian forces pose to the Russian war machine.
