Ukrainian journalist Anastasiia Glukhovska has been held in a Russian pre-trial detention facility for nearly three years, according to Ukrainska Pravda, citing regional outlet RIA-Piwden and Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, head of the parliamentary committee on freedom of speech. She was abducted by Russian security forces in occupied Melitopol in August 2023 and has been in custody ever since, without ever being formally charged.

After being transferred from Taganrog to the prison in Kizel, Perm Krai, Glukhovska went on hunger strike. The same facility previously held Ukrainian journalist Victoria Roshchyna, who died in Russian custody. According to relatives and former inmates, Glukhovska suffers from chronic endometriosis and swollen legs due to extremely harsh detention conditions – prisoners are not allowed to sit or lie down during the day.

A recently exchanged prisoner reported that Glukhovska is alive and works in the prison’s sewing workshop. After the deaths of Roshchyna and the mayor of Dniprorudne, Yevhen Matvieiev, inspections were conducted, leading to some improvement in conditions. Glukhovska has now been held without charges for two years and ten months.
