The number of naturalizations in Germany has reached a record high. Within the Union, voices are therefore growing that call for a tightening of the rules. A CDU interior politician is now examining how stricter regulations could be implemented, as Welt reports.
The coalition agreement of the traffic-light government explicitly protects central parts of the current naturalization law. Nevertheless, the Union is looking for leeway to raise the requirements for German citizenship. The initiative comes against the backdrop of a debate on integration and immigration.
