Nigel Farage, the leader of Reform UK, on Tuesday urged trade unions to attend his party’s conference and affiliate with it, suggesting one union was on the brink of doing so. The leaderships of the TUC, GMB and Unison have now firmly rejected this.
“Reform UK is only cosplaying as a workers’ champion,” the union leaders said. The party has repeatedly spoken out against new workers’ rights, they added. Affiliating with Reform UK was therefore not under consideration.
The rebuff comes amid rising poll numbers for Reform UK among union members. A recent survey showed the party is now as popular as Labour within this group. Farage is apparently trying to exploit this discontent.
