Berlin has long had a problem with violence and bullying in schools. Cases such as the Rütli School in Neukölln or the Friedrich Bergius School in Friedenau made national headlines. Now the education administration wants to bring clarity with a scientific study.

Berlin Conflict and Violence Barometer is based on extensive surveys of students and teachers. It is the first such comprehensive investigation by a German state on the topic, the education administration announced. Senator Günther-Wünsch plans to present the results on Monday.

Just last year, the Carl Bolle Elementary School in Moabit made headlines. A pedagogical employee had complained about months of bullying due to his homosexuality and spoke of a “complete system failure.” Günther-Wünsch apologized to the affected person at the end of April.
