In his speech on Sunday evening, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Vladimir Putin is "finally ready for real talks." Zelensky emphasized the necessity of finding an appropriate framework for such discussions to end the war and ensure security.
Putin had previously declared on May 9 that he was willing to meet with Zelensky, and that this could take place in a third country, provided a final peace agreement is reached. "This must be a definitive conclusion," Putin said.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha had already stated that Kyiv is open to a possible meeting point, but not in Russia or Belarus. This demonstrates Ukraine's willingness to seek diplomatic solutions while Russian aggression continues.
