The announcement was made as part of a fundamental reform of military compensation and recruitment, according to UNIAN. Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine has the financial resources for the increase. The new payments are to be implemented through the cabinet starting in June.

In addition to higher base salaries, Zelenskyy said “new, significantly stronger contracts for infantrymen” are planned. The terms will be ten, 14, or 24 months; after expiration, soldiers will receive a deferment right. Compensation for combat commanders will also rise to retain leadership experience in the army.

Another focus is the recruitment of foreign volunteers. Zelenskyy announced plans to expand the mechanisms and capacities for their integration into the Ukrainian armed forces. Transfers for soldiers will be simplified, and promotion opportunities improved. The Defense Ministry will present the details.
