Zelenskyy: Russia Loses the Initiative in War Every Day

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sees the military situation for his country as more favorable than it has been in two and a half years. In an interview with the British newspaper The Guardian in London, he said Russia is losing the initiative day by day.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed confidence about the course of the war in an interview with the British newspaper The Guardian. More than four years after the start of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, he sees the situation for his country as more promising than it has been in two and a half years. “We cannot say that Russia is losing this war. But we can say that they are losing the initiative day by day,” Zelenskyy said in London.

In recent days, the Kremlin has suffered a series of setbacks. Ukrainian long-range drones struck the hometown of Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin, St Petersburg, setting oil terminals ablaze. Plumes of smoke rose over the city. Similar attacks hit the Russian-occupied Crimea. A key supply road on the peninsula is littered with burning trucks and tankers. Crimea, which Russia illegally annexed in 2014, is experiencing severe fuel shortages.

Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine is ready to share its experience in drone warfare with the West. The interview took place on the sidelines of his visit to London, where he also met Charles. When asked about former US President Donald Trump, Zelenskyy was reserved but emphasized the importance of American support.

EuroPulse reported on June 7, 2026, that according to Ukraine, Putin missed a chance for peace (europulse.today/ukraine-putin-lost-chance-peace-talks).
