Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Saturday that intelligence from the US and European partners had provided evidence of preparations for a Russian attack using the Oreshnik missile. The information is currently being verified, Zelenskyy said. He noted signs of a combined strike against Ukraine, particularly targeting Kyiv, involving various weapons systems.
Zelenskyy called on the population to heed air raid warnings starting the evening of May 23 and to seek shelter. “Russian madness truly knows no bounds, so please protect your lives – use the shelters,” he emphasized. Ukraine is preparing its air defense as best as possible and will respond “fully justly” to every Russian strike.
The president appealed to partners in the US and Europe to apply preventive pressure on Moscow to prevent an escalation of the war. The use of such weapons and the prolongation of the war set a global example for other potential aggressors. “If Russia is allowed to destroy lives on this scale, no agreement will deter other similar hate-based regimes from aggression and attacks,” Zelenskyy warned.
