The drone strike on Ukrainian railway infrastructure took place on Tuesday, resulting in 23 hits on various facilities. According to Dmytro Lytvyn, an advisor to the Ukrainian president, trains were stopped in advance and passengers were evacuated to avoid injuries. This highlights the increasing intensity and persistence of Russia’s airstrikes.
“As a result of the attack, we recorded 23 hits on railway facilities. There were no injuries or fatalities among passengers, as the trains were stopped and evacuated in time,” Lytvyn stated. However, there were civilian casualties in a related incident: two railway workers, who were off duty, died in the city of Zdolbuniv, while another person was injured.
The attacks caused significant damage to the infrastructure, including three locomotives, seven passenger cars, eight freight cars, five transformer stations, five depots, and two bridges. This offensive is part of a broader Russian strategy aimed at disrupting Ukrainian mobility and logistics.
Previous attacks had already led the state-owned Ukrzaliznytsia to limit the publication of schedules and routes to minimize the risk of further strikes. The current developments underscore the ongoing threat posed by Russia’s drone warfare.
