On Thursday, two attacks were carried out on a UN aid convoy in Kherson that was delivering food and solar lights to needy civilians. The incident occurred in the heavily bombarded Ostriv area of the Korabelnyi district. UN staff, including Andrea De Domenico, head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Ukraine, were on board the vehicle but remained unharmed.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the incident, emphasizing that the Russian forces must have known exactly which vehicle they were targeting. “The Russians could not have overlooked which vehicle they aimed at,” Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram.

UN aid chief Tom Fletcher described the attack as a possible “targeted strike” and stated that the UN is “angry” and will demand full investigations and accountability. “Our people were very, very lucky to come away with their lives,” Fletcher added.

The incident has drawn international attention to the dangers faced by humanitarian workers in Ukraine and has intensified calls for protective measures for such missions.
