US authorities have charged Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi, identified as a senior member of the Shiite militia Kataib Hezbollah. According to US media, he is believed to be responsible for nearly 20 attacks on Jewish and US facilities in Europe, including an arson attack on a Jewish restaurant in Munich.

US Attorney Jay Clayton stated that Al-Saadi coordinated or supported attacks that were also intended to occur on US soil. The alleged actions include attacks on synagogues in Liège (Belgium) and Rotterdam (Netherlands), as well as on a Jewish school in Amsterdam.

Investigators suspect that Iranian intelligence and security services may be behind the attacks. A previously unknown group called Harakat Ashab al-Jamin al-Islamija (Haji) has claimed responsibility for some of the attacks, including those in Munich.

The defendant’s attorney did not comment on the charges but warned against jumping to conclusions and criticized the conditions under which Al-Saadi is held in solitary confinement.
