The European Union has imposed sanctions on Chinese chipmaker Yangzhou Yangjie Electronic Technology (Yangjie), as Handelsblatt reports. The company, based in Yangzhou, produces power semiconductors used in the automotive industry.

For Germany’s auto industry, chip supply is becoming more difficult again. Automakers had recently turned to new sources to reduce dependence on Asian suppliers. The EU measures now hit another key supplier.

Yangjie is one of China’s largest manufacturers of diodes and transistors. The sanctions could further strain supply chains for German carmakers, which have been suffering from shortages for years.
