An hour before the celebration began, numerous fans gathered at Marienplatz, many wearing jerseys of Giulia Gwinn (number 7) and Klara Bühl (number 17). The team around Gwinn had just completed a historic season: undefeated with 24 wins and two draws in the league, plus a 4-0 victory over Wolfsburg in the DFB-Pokal final – without conceding a single goal in the entire cup competition.

Mayor Dominik Krause praised not only the statistics but especially the team’s attitude in his welcome speech. FC Bayern Herbert Hainer presented Krause with a personalized jersey bearing the number 12 – part of an integration program aimed at turning the mayor into a Bayern fan. Krause promised to hang the jersey in his office.

Before the team appeared on the town hall balcony, security personnel preemptively checked banners for offensive content, following an incident at the men’s team’s championship celebration where fans of TSV 1860 Munich had altered the FCB logo. The concern proved unfounded: fans cheered as the players raised the championship trophy. Particularly loud were the “Caro Simon” chants for defender Carolin Simon, who is leaving the club at the end of the season. The team sang the club anthem “Tage voller Sonne” with the crowd.

After about 20 minutes, the players left the balcony, but hundreds of fans remained – including a group from Japan who had traveled specifically to cheer for midfielder Momoko Tanikawa. Tanikawa, originally from Nagoya, had scored the 3-0 goal in the cup final. During the celebration, a derogatory banner from local rival 1860 Munich was unfurled, making headlines worldwide but also drawing ridicule on its perpetrators.
