European stock markets fall after US-Iran exchange of fire

European stock markets fell on Wednesday after the US and Iran exchanged fire. The UK's FTSE 100 dropped 0.5 percent, the Guardian reports.

The UK’s benchmark FTSE 100 lost 0.5 percent. Germany’s DAX fell 0.6 percent, France’s CAC 40 dropped 0.3 percent, and the pan-Stoxx 600 declined 0.4 percent.

The losses were triggered by a military exchange between the United States and Iran. The exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear. Asian markets had also posted losses earlier.
