The US Department of Justice approved the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Paramount Skydance on Friday, without demanding any changes. The department concluded that the deal does not threaten competition in the streaming market or the film industry.
The merger is valued at nearly 96 billion euros and also includes the news channel CNN. Critics, including prominent Hollywood stars such as Ben Stiller and Sandra Hüller, expressed concerns that the takeover could stifle creative diversity and worsen working conditions in the industry.
Although the approval has been granted, ten states, led by California, are examining the possibility of suing to block the deal. These legal challenges could still delay the completion of the acquisition.
