In an appeal, over 100 founders and managers have called on the German government to revitalize Germany as a business location. The appeal comes shortly before the coalition committee meeting on July 1, where tangible reform approaches are to be discussed. Verena Pausder, chairwoman of the Startup-Verband, emphasizes that the loss of 10,000 industrial jobs per month last year is a wake-up call for real reforms.
Among the signatories are prominent figures such as David Schröder, co-CEO of Zalando, and André Schwämmlein, founder of Flix. Managers like former Telekom CEO René Obermann and ex-Thyssenkrupp supervisory board chairman Gerhard Cromme also support the appeal. Under the title “For a New Founder Era, Now,” they demand reforms that promote innovation, growth, and competitiveness.
Pausder highlights that Germany has many advantages, including world-class research and skilled talent. These potentials need to be better utilized. The state should enable company formation within 24 hours and create incentives for startup spin-offs from universities.
A top-level coalition meeting is planned for July 1, at which the government intends to present a concrete reform package. Before this meeting, the pension commission is expected to present its results, likely as early as next week.
