In Saxony-Anhalt, a difficult government formation is emerging after the state election on September 6. Polls see the AfD ahead, and the previous coalition of CDU, SPD, and FDP has no secure majority. Against this backdrop, CDU state parliament member Tobias Krull is open to talks with the Left but rejects a coalition with them.
Krull said that talks will be necessary and that there must be forms of cooperation. However, he cannot imagine forming a coalition for a joint government. CDU state vice-chair André Schröder also sees no obstacles in the incompatibility resolution for cooperation with the Left: the resolution excludes institutional and strategic cooperation with the AfD and the Left but does not cover voting behavior in individual cases.
Sven Schulze (CDU) said he naturally speaks politically with all directions but will not form a government with “far left” and “far right.” There could be overlaps on individual issues.
