The insurance ombudsman has recorded another record: in the first five months of 2026, the number of complaints rose by more than half compared to the same period last year. In 2025, the arbitration body had already reached a peak with 28,904 submissions. The average processing time was 77.6 days – below the statutory deadline of 90 days, but complex cases sometimes took significantly longer.
The arbitration body is now calling for an adjustment to its funding to cope with the increased caseload. On its website, it asks customers to refrain from inquiring about the status of their cases. The board and the general meeting are discussing measures to ensure long-term performance.
