The nationwide failure of the train radio system on Tuesday evening caused significant disruptions to rail traffic. Brandenburg’s Transport Minister Robert Crumbach stated that the railway must upgrade its infrastructure to prevent such a total failure from recurring.
Crumbach called on Deutsche Bahn to improve its emergency management. He said that the federal government and the railway are now obliged to thoroughly investigate the technical cause of the disruption and to upgrade the infrastructure so that such a total failure does not happen again.
The disruption of the digital railway radio system GSM-R brought Deutsche Bahn to a standstill for around two hours. Trains began running again around 12:30 a.m. According to security circles, a faulty software update may have caused the disruption. There are no indications of a cyberattack, according to dpa information.
