All squad athletes at the Erfurt federal training center had signed by the deadline this Friday, according to the German Speed Skating and Short Track Association (DESG).

However, they attached a so-called “side letter” with “comments, expectations, and demands.” “We will carefully review the side letter they additionally sent and will promptly address the concerns and demands outlined in it,” said DESG Matthias Große in a statement from the association.

Previously, the board of the Thuringian Ice and Roller Sports Association (Terv) had advised the squad athletes at the Erfurt federal training center not to sign the athlete agreement in the version submitted by the DESG board, which is linked to a relocation to Berlin or Inzell. According to the plan, from July onward, squad athletes are to be concentrated at the Inzell (all-round and long-distance) and Berlin (sprint) locations.
