Schwerdtner criticized that the reform worsens the situation especially for single parents and other vulnerable groups. She referred to a 2019 ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court that classified total sanctions against benefit recipients as unconstitutional.
Instead of stricter sanctions, the Left Party leader called for better-equipped job centers, more language courses, and improved childcare. Only in this way could those affected be placed back into work, Schwerdtner said.
