Criticism is focused on reforms perceived as shirking. It is time to take responsibility and actively defend democracy.
The chancellor cannot do it. And probably not the SPD either. True, the coalition managed to present an ambitious reform package with demonstrative unity before the summer break. But trust between the chancellor and the public is shattered. Criticism of the reform package centers on sick leave from the first day of illness. Once again, this chancellor seems to imply that citizens are shirkers. Instead of defusing criticism of the new rule by making concessions, Merz reacts offended and insults the critics. And the SPD? It promises pragmatic solutions and practices not being an obstructionist.
