Berlin’s first adult education report has been published. The Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family announced that adult education in the capital has grown in many areas. In 2024, around 24,500 courses were offered at a Berlin community college — significantly more than in 2021. Course density has returned to 2019 levels, and the consequences of the pandemic have largely been mitigated.
The language sector was particularly strong: with over 70 percent of teaching units, it dominated the offerings. Of these, more than 54 percent of all teaching units were for German as a second language. State Secretary for School Construction, School Digitalization and Lifelong Learning, Torsten Kühne (CDU), emphasized: “Lifelong learning is a central pillar of our education system.” He pointed to the contribution of recognized providers such as community colleges and the State Center for Political Education.
