The Berlin-Brandenburg State Social Court has temporarily halted the fee reduction for psychotherapists that was introduced in April. The ruling is final.

The lawsuit was filed by the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV), which also represents psychotherapists. The court justified its decision partly due to concerns about the calculation methodology used by the responsible arbitration board.

An arbitration panel composed of health insurance representatives, KBV members, and neutral parties had decided in spring to cut fees by 4.5 percent as of April 1. Despite new surcharges for personnel costs, the umbrella organization of statutory health insurers (GKV) says the reduction amounts to 2.3 percent for 2026. The cuts sparked nationwide protests.

It remains unclear when the court will rule on the main case. A routine formal review of the decision by the Federal Ministry of Health had previously found no legal objections, according to the ministry in early June.
