A spokesperson for the DAX-listed group confirmed the plans to dpa without giving specific numbers or locations. “As we have been communicating transparently for some time, we are working to respond more quickly to market changes through more agile and targeted structures,” Zalando said. The company wants to reduce the positions through mutual termination agreements.
Last year, Zalando already cut around 450 jobs in customer service in Berlin. The company is also closing its site in Erfurt, which still employs around 2,100 people, by the end of September. In early July, management and the works council agreed on a social plan with severance payments, but a transfer company demanded by the works council was not agreed upon.
In parallel, Zalando is building a new site in the Romanian capital Bucharest. By the first quarter of 2027, 60 jobs are to be created there. “In the longer term, we plan to relocate certain positions and processes to Bucharest and create additional jobs there,” the company said.
