Polish Agriculture Minister Stefan Krajewski has made clear that Warsaw will not lift its unilateral ban on Ukrainian grain imports. The decision comes despite ongoing pressure from the European Commission.
Krajewski stressed that grain should be directed to third-country markets outside Europe rather than remaining on the European market. He also expressed skepticism about increasing transit volumes through Poland as long as port capacities are not expanded.
Political debate ahead of 2027 elections
The issue of Ukrainian agricultural imports has become a central point of political debate in Poland, particularly ahead of the 2027 parliamentary elections. The opposition Law and Justice party (PiS) sharply criticizes the government of Donald Tusk.
PiS accuses the government of making concessions in the 2025 EU-Ukraine trade agreement that disadvantage Polish farmers. The agreement provides for import quotas for Ukrainian products, which Poland would have to accept under EU law.
