The death toll from the Russian air strike on the school in Komyshuvakha in the Zaporizhzhia region has risen to 43. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this on Thursday in a Facebook post, as reported by Ukrinform. Previously, 42 deaths had been confirmed.

Zelensky spoke during a meeting with Portuguese President António José Seguro in Madrid. He thanked him for his condolences over the attack on “an ordinary school in Komyshuvakha”, where people were receiving humanitarian aid. The rescue and search operation is now in its fourth day. “According to the current situation, 43 people have been confirmed killed. My condolences go to their families and relatives,” Zelensky said.

According to him, dozens of people could still be trapped under the rubble. One person reported missing was found alive on Thursday, as the independent online news outlet Hromadske also reported, citing President Zelensky. According to earlier reports, Russian forces had hit the underground school with nine aerial bombs while humanitarian aid was being distributed there. The attack occurred on Monday, 2 November.

According to Zelensky, the meeting in Madrid also covered support for the Ukrainian energy system, the protection of human lives and possibilities for joint weapons production. “We very much hope that there will be further steps of support,” he said.
