To inherit in Ukraine, heirs must visit a notary and submit a complete set of documents within six months of the testator's death. Without these documents, the heir cannot claim the deceased's assets. According to the Ukrainian Civil Code, the property is initially transferred to the individuals named in the will.

The primary heirs are typically the children, parents, and spouses of the deceased. If there is no will, the property is passed on to the closest relatives in order of kinship. This is stipulated in Article 1261 of the Civil Code.

Additionally, the platform delo.ua reports that heirs who did not live with the deceased must provide a declaration to the notary. This regulation also applies to minor children, who must be represented by their legal guardians.
