The 18th edition of the Alive festival in Lisbon features a dedicated literature stage for the first time. The festival organizers created a “space for books, writing, and the power of stories.” The festival takes place from July 9 to 11 at Passeio Marítimo de Algés, with a maximum capacity of 55,000 visitors per day – tickets for Friday and Saturday are already sold out.
Among the invited authors is Portuguese writer Valter Hugo Mãe, whose works such as “A Desumanização” and “O paraíso são os outros” have been translated into several languages. In an interview with Euronews, he emphasized that all initiatives are important “that bring books closer to people, that bring books where people are.” He also warned of the dangers of new technologies and artificial intelligence, which threaten not only cultural creation but humanity as a whole.
Authors appearing on the literature stage include Pedro Chagas Freitas, Afonso Cruz, Luísa Sobral, Pedro Boucherie Mendes, Francisco Guimarães, Ana Bárbara Pedrosa, David Azevedo Lopes, and Hugo van der Ding. The audience can purchase books on site and have them signed; through a partnership with FNAC and CTT-Correios de Portugal, free home delivery is available.
