Costa’s trip will first take him to Slovakia and Estonia, a senior EU official told European Pravda. On 26 August, Lithuania and Latvia are scheduled, followed by the Czech Republic on 27 August. In total, Costa plans to visit 26 of the 27 EU capitals—only Sweden is skipped, as its government has asked to postpone official meetings due to elections set for late September 2026.
Ukraine aid, the talks will cover EU enlargement, competitiveness, migration, the Middle East, and the long-term EU budget for 2028–2034. The focus will also be on preparing the EU summit on 15–16 October in Brussels, where a strategic debate on the future enlargement of the Union is planned.
On Ukraine, the EU official said the discussions will span a wide range of topics, including the prospects for accession negotiations, the opening of negotiation chapters, and the country’s defense needs. Specifically, the delivery of interceptor missiles for Ukraine’s air defense will also be discussed.
On 24 August, Costa had already traveled to Kyiv for Ukraine’s Independence Day. There, he reiterated that the EU is ready to welcome Ukraine as a full member—calling it the best guarantee for security and long-term democratic stability in Europe.
