In Russian attacks on the Kyiv region, six people have been injured and 28 sites damaged within the past 24 hours, including 24 private houses. This was reported by Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, on Saturday, 10 October, on Telegram, as reported by the Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform.

According to this, three people were injured by a night-time drone attack in the Bucha district alone. All three were taken to hospital. “Among the injured is a woman born in 1937 who suffered an acute stress reaction. Two other people suffered shrapnel wounds and burns,” Ukrinform quotes Tkachenko as saying. A private house caught fire.

The damage is spread across five districts of the region. In the Bucha district, three private houses, a warehouse and an infrastructure facility were damaged. In the Fastiv district, eight private houses were hit, in the Browary district ten private houses. In the Obukhiv district, three private houses and an infrastructure facility were damaged, in the Vyshhorod district an infrastructure facility.

Attacks on residential areas – a series with consequences

The region around the capital has been under fire for weeks. Already on 27 and 28 September, according to Tymur Tkachenko, head of the military administration of the Kyiv region, three people had been killed and eight others injured; 21 civilian sites in five districts were damaged, as the English-language news portal New Voice of Ukraine (NV) reported. At that time, the Stolichnyi market in the Bucha district, two warehouses in the Browary district and a production site in the Fastiv district were hit, among others. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, one of those killed was a citizen of Azerbaijan. The logistics company ZAMMLER reported that its warehouse had been hit on 27 September. The fires worsened air quality in Obukhiv and Browary.

The attacks thus repeatedly hit the same places: residential buildings, markets, warehouses and infrastructure. Ukrinform also reports that mobile shelters are being installed at railway stations in the region – an indication of how much air defence determines people’s daily lives.

What the attacks mean for people

For the residents of the region, this means: night after night of alarms, damaged houses and injured people, who are often older people. The woman born in 1937 with an acute stress reaction is an example of how heavily the psychological consequences weigh on the civilian population. Anyone who loses their home or whose workplace – for example in a warehouse or production facility – is destroyed faces an uncertain future.

The Kyiv region is not a frontline area, but the surrounding area of the capital. The fact that 28 sites are damaged here within a single day shows how far Russian drones and missiles can reach. Ukrainian air defence cannot intercept all targets.

Editor’s note: The figures on injuries and damage come from the regional authorities and cannot be independently verified. The latest figures refer to the past 24 hours; earlier figures from September show that the region has been repeatedly targeted by Russian attacks for weeks.
