The BBC, Britain’s public-service broadcaster, plans to cut 550 jobs. According to Spiegel, both the news and entertainment departments are affected. Staff reductions are also taking place at the management level.
The measure is part of an ongoing cost-cutting program aimed at reducing expenses. The broadcaster is under pressure because license fees in the UK are not rising with inflation. In recent years, the BBC has already eliminated thousands of positions.
