The Mainz-based biotechnology company BioNTech has made its first strategic decision following the departure of its founders: it will continue to focus on the mRNA technology that made the company world-famous with its coronavirus vaccine. This was reported by Handelsblatt, citing several people familiar with the matter.

The separation plan involves hundreds of employees moving to a new company. The split affects founders Ugur Sahin and Özlem Türeci. Plans are already in place regarding which research will remain with BioNTech and which parts will go to the founders. Additionally, investors may receive stakes in the new company.
