The Blue-Yellow Cross association has sent 1,000 ambulances to Ukraine. The aid convoy departed from the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament in Düsseldorf and is headed for a hospital in the city of Sumy, which comes under fire daily. This clinic treats severely injured patients with burns.
Linda Mai, chairwoman of Blue-Yellow Cross, stressed that for the people in Ukraine, the war has been a horrific daily reality for 1,625 days, marked by bombings and destruction. The need for ambulances and fire engines in Ukraine is immense, Mai said, as even the aid vehicles themselves are targets of drone attacks.
In the first half of this year, the organization already delivered aid supplies worth over ten million euros to Ukraine. In total, 164 trucks loaded with aid goods were sent to 126 cities. Since the start of Russia’s large-scale invasion in February 2022, Blue-Yellow Cross has mobilized more than 50 million euros in donations.
