As the Bundestag reports on its website, a one-hour Bundestag debate will take place on Friday, 17 April 2026, focusing on agricultural policy. The basis is four initiatives from the AfD parliamentary group. Two motions are to be voted on, while two others are to be referred to the lead committee for Agriculture, Food and Homeland for further deliberation.

The first motion to be voted on from the AfD (21/3872) is titled "Food Security and Preservation of Productive Agriculture – For a Pragmatic Agricultural and Food Policy, Instead of Unrealistic Environmental Activism". According to the Bundestag, the MPs argue that global and national food security is increasingly coming into focus in light of geopolitical instabilities, disrupted supply chains, and weather-related uncertainties. They call for prioritizing food security and domestic production, as well as ensuring supply security and the preservation of productive agricultural land in all agricultural and food policy measures. A recommendation for a decision from the Committee for Agriculture and Food (21/4436) is available for this.

The second motion to be voted on (21/4946) deals with the "Consequences of the Blockade of the Strait of Hormuz for Fertilizer Transports to Germany – Reducing Impacts on Agriculture and Food Security". In it, the AfD parliamentary group attributes increasing strategic importance to securing the supply of key agricultural production inputs. The proposers demand, among other things, that the federal government present a comprehensive risk analysis on the impacts of geopolitical conflicts, possible blockades of international trade routes, and rising energy prices on Germany's fertilizer supply. Additionally, it should advocate in European Union (EU) institutions for excluding fertilizer production from CO2 accounting and for examining existing trade restrictions or sanction regulations for their effects on the European fertilizer supply. Another recommendation for a decision from the Committee for Agriculture (21/5385) is available for this.

For the first time, the motions "Comprehensively Reduce Bureaucratic Burden Now – Secure Domestic Agriculture" (21/5328) and "Suspend CO2 Pricing – Save German Horticulture, Secure National Food Sovereignty, Preserve Regional Value Creation, and Stabilize Food Prices" (21/5329) will be deliberated. In the motion on reducing bureaucracy, the AfD parliamentary group calls on the federal government to advocate at the EU level for a moratorium that prevents new bureaucratic requirements for farmers and livestock keepers. It should also advocate for simplifying funding measures and criteria, as well as for higher funding rates. The motion justifies this by stating, "the jungle of bureaucratic regulations, requirements, and (supposed) necessities is growing."
