According to Welt, Kubicki is determined to resurrect the FDP. The party should be ‘feared if necessary,’ the paper quoted the FDP chairman as saying. When initial signs of success emerged, Kubicki picked up his phone and sent a message to the chancellor.

The SMS to Friedrich Merz read: ‘Moin, Friedrich. Mission Impossible is completed.’ The text message apparently followed a period in which the FDP had fallen below the five-percent threshold in polls. After his election as party leader, Kubicki had announced a change of course.

EuroPulse reported on May 31, 2026, about Kubicki’s election as the new FDP chairman and his conservative-liberal direction (article).
