The reform of the Building Energy Act (GEG) is not yet complete. However, because the current regulations would soon expire, a transitional solution is needed. The Bundestag has therefore extended the implementation deadline for the so-called 65-percent rule: it will not take effect on July 1, but no earlier than November 1, as Tagesspiegel reports.

The regulation requires that in larger cities, new heating systems must be powered by at least 65 percent renewable energy. The coalition plans to completely abolish this requirement as part of the GEG reform. Since the new regulation is expected to be finalized only after the original start date, the deadline was precautionarily extended by four months. This means that heating systems that do not meet the 65-percent quota may still be installed after July 1.
