The Climate Alliance is stepping up pressure on the German government. The coalition is calling for a national heat summit to finally turn endless climate talk into reliable measures for heat protection and climate adaptation. Municipalities in particular need clear guidelines rather than political improvisation during the summer months.
At the same time, the energy transition must be accelerated significantly to free Germany from its dependence on fossil oil and gas imports. The Climate Alliance, which comprises more than 150 member organizations including environmental and social associations, churches, and trade unions, sees itself as a broad-based player in this debate.
The Greens indirectly support this demand by proposing a European heat summit with immediate aid and a new climate pledge. The Paritätischer Gesamtverband, also a member of the Climate Alliance, points to the social consequences of the heat crisis and calls for targeted support for facilities providing essential services.
