Ukraine came under another massive wave of Russian military attacks overnight. Cities as far west as Lviv were targeted with dozens of missiles and cruise missiles as well as hundreds of drones, Ukrainian media reported on Friday morning. At least eight people were killed and more than a dozen wounded.

In the city of Kryvyi Rih, a missile hit the home of an extended family, according to the Kyiv Independent. Six people died there, including two children aged five and twelve, and eight were wounded. Two more fatalities were reported from the capital Kyiv and the Poltava region. In Lviv, five people were injured, officials said.

President Volodymyr Zelensky had warned on Wednesday of an imminent major Russian aerial attack, citing a report from the Ukrainian air force commander. Ukrainian forces complain they lack anti-aircraft missiles to shoot down enemy projectiles — especially ballistic missiles, which are particularly difficult to intercept due to their high speed. Zelensky again called on Western partners to help Ukraine, specifically the United States and other countries with modern Patriot systems.
