Klaus Holetschek, the leader of the CSU parliamentary group in the Bavarian State Parliament, has warned the federal government against imposing a one-sided burden on those affected by the upcoming care reform. In an article for the magazine Focus, he stated that a reform that undermines the core of the welfare state does not represent modernization but rather a "course towards social coldness."
Holetschek particularly criticized the planned staggered subsidies for nursing home residents. These are set to be stretched over a longer period, which could allow for savings of several billion euros in long-term care insurance, but would come at a massive cost to those affected, according to Holetschek.
He emphasized that care should not become a "fateful question of generations." The proposed measures could significantly increase the financial burden on nursing home residents and thus jeopardize social security.
Holetschek therefore calls for a review of the reform plans to ensure that the savings do not come at the expense of those who rely on care.
