The Interior Ministers’ Conference (IMK) will take place in Hamburg starting Wednesday and will for the first time involve the Defense Ministry and the Bundeswehr. Hamburg’s Interior Senator Andy Grote (SPD) emphasized that internal security is a joint task and that the IMK provides a platform for joint decisions.
The conference will focus on civil defense capabilities and countering hybrid threats. Grote stated that alongside military defense, civil defense must be expanded as an equally important pillar. Participants have around 80 draft resolutions before them, covering issues such as implementing new migration rules and measures for repatriating convicted criminals.
Other topics include improving security in football stadiums and combating sexualized violence and organized crime. The IMK thus offers an important opportunity to address current security policy challenges.
