DHL aims to quintuple revenue from renewable energy logistics by 2030

The logistics group DHL targets an annual revenue of three billion euros from renewable energy logistics by 2030 – a fivefold increase from current levels. The company announced this at its own conference, as reported by FAZ.

DHL CEO Tobias Meyer said on Thursday at the group’s “New Energy Conference” in Schiphol, Netherlands, that the energy transition has “become independent of politics.” Although renewable energies have somewhat left the headlines and sentiment is increasingly influenced by the tweets of certain individuals – an allusion to US Donald Trump – these energies continue to gain importance because they make economic sense.

Last year, DHL increased its revenue from logistics services for renewable energies from 400 million to 600 million euros. The target for 2030 is more than three billion euros. The group sees itself confirmed by geopolitical risks: around three-quarters of the world’s population live in countries that depend on imported fossil fuels and are thus vulnerable to supply disruptions. Renewable energies offer a solution here.

Campbell Keir, President of the International Energy Trade Association Energy Industries Council, emphasized at the conference: “Security of supply is currently the top priority.” Renewable energies are therefore extremely on the rise, offering reliability and being price-competitive. Their growth is driven, for example, by the expansion of data centers and battery storage. Meyer added that the energy transition consists of various building blocks, not a single technology or supply chain. DHL has the expertise to build the necessary new supply chains worldwide.
