Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt on Tuesday rejected criticism of the recent deportations of Afghans. The deportations concern individuals who have committed serious crimes and were deported from custody, he said at an event of the CDU parliamentary group in Hamburg City Hall.

On Tuesday night, 32 Afghans were deported to their home country on a charter flight from Leipzig/Halle Airport. According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, they are criminals convicted of offenses including rape, homicide, and drug trafficking. Those deported came from several federal states, including North Rhine-Westphalia and Bavaria.

Criticism came from Left Party politician Clara Bünger, who accused the federal and state governments of ignoring human rights concerns. Dobrindt countered that in recent years, it was not humanity that was lacking in migration policy, but order.
