Dobrindt wants to expand deportations to Afghanistan

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) plans to significantly increase the number of deportations to Afghanistan. Three charter flights per month would be possible, a ministry spokesperson told the German Press Agency.

The expansion of deportations is based on talks between representatives of the Federal Interior Ministry and the Taliban, who hold power in Afghanistan. The German government does not recognize the Islamists as a legitimate government, which is why the meetings are referred to as “technical-level talks.” In addition to charter flights, individual returns via scheduled flights are possible at any time, the spokesperson said.

Just recently, Germany deported 32 Afghan criminals on a charter flight. The men had been convicted of offenses including rape, homicide, sexual abuse of children, drug trafficking, and extortion. Dobrindt emphasized: “Anyone who abuses our protection and commits serious crimes here must seek their future in their home country.”
