Drones have fundamentally changed the battlefield in Ukraine. Hobby drones have been repurposed into deadly weapons, constantly expanding the kill zone between the front lines. Tanks have nearly disappeared because a cheap drone can destroy an expensive battle tank. Ukraine is using drones strategically to pressure Russia and end the war. The development of AI-powered drones marks a turning point in warfare, exposing German defense strategies as outdated. Ukraine has become a laboratory for military technology and strategy, and the future of war lies in unmanned systems and algorithms.

In a sunlit room far from the front, two young men sit at a desk, preparing for their eighth drone flight of the day. They belong to the Ukrainian battalion “Da Vinci Wolves,” currently fighting in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Their mission: deliver supplies to infantry soldiers in their positions. In the kill zone, where Russian and Ukrainian drones immediately attack and destroy any vehicle, water, food, bandages, and ammunition now arrive almost exclusively by air. The pilot and navigator are to fly to two positions with their heavy bomber, as this type of drone is called. At each, Ukrainian soldiers are waiting for the package they need to survive.
