Economics Minister Katherina Reiche emphasized at the PCK refinery in Schwedt that the jet fuel supply in Germany remains stable despite the crude oil shortage. The minister stated that while high prices pose a burden for vacationers, there is no imminent jet fuel shortage. "The market is currently showing behavior through high prices that can become a burden for individual holiday travelers," Reiche said.

The PCK refinery, which produces jet fuel, has slightly reduced its output due to a lack of deliveries from Kazakhstan. Russia has halted the transit of oil from Kazakhstan, which has strained the situation in Schwedt. However, Reiche stressed that the absence of Kazakh oil does not mean production will cease, as this share accounts for only about one-fifth of the total supplies.

Nina Scheer, energy policy spokesperson for the SPD parliamentary group, expressed concern about a potential jet fuel shortage. She emphasized the need to make it clear to the public that there could be shortages depending on the further developments of the war in the Persian Gulf. "It is important to clarify to people that there can indeed be a shortage," Scheer said.

The rising prices of diesel, gasoline, and jet fuel are a direct consequence of the Iran war. The Schwedt is one of eight refineries in Germany that produce jet fuel, and all rely on crude oil, the prices of which continue to rise.
