Gas stations in North Rhine-Westphalia experienced a rush on the last day of the fuel discount. Drivers wanted to fill up cheaply before the state subsidy expired at midnight.
Cars were lined up from the roundabout on Barbarossastraße to the entrance. The opposite lane was also blocked because vehicles turning left from the station. Bike paths became impassable, and pedestrians stopped in amazement.
Cyclists had no way through.
Waiting Times and Empty Pumps
At the Star gas station in Siegburg-Stallberg, fuel briefly ran out. One driver had expected the high traffic but could only fill up in the morning due to appointments.
He had already tried two other stations, but they were even more crowded. He was annoyed by the long wait and his own shortsightedness in filling up so late.
Police and Station Staff in Constant Action
In addition to the bft station on Hennefer Straße, another bft station in Neunkirchen-Seelscheid and a Star station on Siegstraße were affected. The entrance to the station is very short, and with parked cars on the opposite side of the street, there is not enough space. Police had to ensure emergency vehicles could get through.
For four hours, there was almost continuous peak traffic. There was no time for breaks. Despite the rush, customers remained friendly. One employee had already filled up early in the morning at a 24-hour self-service station in Königswinter.
